Today’s Moto3 Italian GP at Mugello was run in overcast but dry conditions. John McPhee eventually came home 16th (+28.583), having missed out on final point by one-thousandth of a second. John had been running up to 9th on the opening lap but dropped down to 14th on lap 6 following a scrap with Danny Webb.

Much of remainder of race was spent in a six rider battle for 15th place, and he gained two places on last lap after final corner crash involving Ferrari and Kornfeil. Team-mate Jack Miller came home 10th +19.026. whilst the podium was Luis Salom (Ajo / KTM), Alex Rins (Monlau / KTM), Maverick Vinales (Calvo / KTM).

Well I’m a bit disappointed with the final result to be honest. I got a really good start and got up into 9th position on the first lap. I knew we had problems almost instantly as I had some really big moments from the rear starting in lap 1 when the tyres were new.

We had made some changes before the race and this was obviously the wrong direction. As the race went on I gradually got slower and the bike still had a lot of movement! To finish just outside the points was really disappointing but, I’m now thinking ahead to Catalunya in 2 weeks time and hope to have a stronger race there. Without the finial position I think we had a fairly strong weekend with some good finishes in practice/ warm-up sessions so things are definitely moving in the right direction!
