John’s Blog: Assen, Day 1 – Mixed conditions, mixed luck

Today was an okay day… In Free Practice 1 I had to learn my way around the circuit and generally just get a feel for the bike. Everything felt fairly good so I was pretty happy that we’d started off with a strong ‘base’ setup!

For Free Practice 2, we made some small changes and all were a step in the right direction! My first flying lap was 0.2 quicker than my previous best then on lap 4 I went another second a lap faster! I had managed to tuck in behind some fast riders and was feeling comfortable!

Unfortunately on lap 5 we had some major problems and I had to stop the bike. This was the end of the session for me!

I’m feeling confident that I can go faster and just need some more laps. The forecast is now rain for the rest of the weekend so this will be bound to mix things up a little! Looking forward to FP3 and qualifying tomorrow nonetheless 🙂
