John McPhee makes great steps forward in Qatar FP3
Today saw the second day of practice at Qatar and a great improvement for young Scot John McPhee on his SAXOPRINT RTG bike.
Initially, John McPhee had a hard time to find a good rhythm. He was not entirely happy with the clutch and still lacked some feeling with the bike. Several laps into the session John pitted to make good some settings on his bike. At this time, he was running in 13th position.
Going back out on track, John made great strides, and on the last lap of FP3 he moved up to 4th place.
In qualifying tomorrow, it is going to be particularly important for John to get a good grid spot to be able to get away with the leading pack in the race and avoid the crowded and usually chaotic midfield.
John McPhee:
“I am obviously more happy now than I was yesterday. We finished the practice with a good result. But I still have to learn the bike lap by lap and to build my confidence. We have made good improvements compared to yesterday. I am happy we’re moving into the right direction. For tomorrow we need to be on the front three rows. But I want to fight the whole session to get in the front row.”
