Top ten finish for John at Brno
John McPhee’s Brno weekend in the Czech Republic ended positively, with the SAXOPRINT RTG rider once again racing up towards the sharp end of the field, and once again finishing in the top ten.
Following the heat of the previous days this weekend at Brno, this morning’s warm-up and race were run under cooler and greyer conditions.
The race was red-flagged before the end of the first lap following a multiple rider crash and the need for trackside attention to Gabriel Rodrigo, and returned to the pits.
The race restarted almost half an hour later, shortened to 12 laps – but with full points awarded.
John made an excellent start, immediately jumping to fifth within the first couple of corners, though he was nudged back to 8th in tight fighting in lap 2 – staying firmly in the leading group.
With 8 laps to go, the leading group had pulled out a gap from the following group – with John sat on the back of the leading group, but putting in a personal best.
The following pack languished about 2.5 seconds behind John as he moved up a place following the crash of teammate Alexis Masbou – and as Nicolo Antonelli took his maiden win, John crossed the line in tenth; a solid points scoring end to a solid weekend.
John McPhee: P10 (+3.385):
“This weekend I made a big step forward with my riding and also my confidence is coming higher. This is good. In the race I was riding 100% every lap, but it still wasn’t possible to pass the other guys, because I never came close enough.”
