Solid Sepang race for John McPhee, finishing 10th
Despite continuing pain from injuries sustained in yesterday’s FP3 crash, SAXOPRINT RTG rider John McPhee rode a solid and spirited race at Sepang today to finish the Malaysian Grand Prix in tenth position.
The young Racing Steps Foundation backed Scot made a good start, and spent the first part of the race leading the chasing pack, then fell back slightly but continued with a consistent pace to finish the race some 10 seconds behind the winner Miguel Oliveira.
John McPhee: P10 (+10,030):
“I got a good start into the race and I felt very strong for the first few laps. I felt confident and I was happy with my pace. I could come more to the front of the group and then started to fight a little bit with some of the riders. I tried to keep Concentrated, Because The group extended more and more. There were two big crashes in front of me and then I lost a little bit of time. I was able to come again a little bit closer to the front group. But then again one rider crashed in front of me and I hit the bike of him with my front wheel and immediately at this point I had a strange feeling from the front on the straights, on the corners. I was not sure if there was a problem so I lost some time. Then it was quite difficult to come back in the rest of the race, Because I always had this strange feeling. Finally I am happy enough with the result. It was a difficult weekend. But to score some points I am happy. “
