John uses opening sessions in Texas to make solid progress on setups
Teams and riders were welcomed by fine weather in the USA after a long and demanding trip coming from Argentina mid this week. The conditions remained stable for the opening day with ambient temperatures in Austin though track conditions were not at its best during FP1 this morning.
Both Masbou and Scotsman McPhee made progress during Friday’s free practice sessions to improve their lap times respectively in the afternoon significantly thanks to improved track conditions and lapping consistently around the 5.5 kilometres challenging track. Both riders felt comfortable aboard their Peugeot Moto3 machine though McPhee reported some technical issues. But this will be fixed till tomorrow morning.
Moto3 on-track action is set to continue on Saturday morning with the third free practice session as the final preparation for qualifying practice at lunchtime. Both riders in Peugeot Motocycles SAXOPRINT aim for a good timed session in order to achieve the best possible starting position for a successful points hunt this Sunday late morning.
#17 John McPHEE (FP1: P25 – 2´20.957 (14/14) / FP2: P23 – 2´18.531 (9/13)):
“Of course the position doesn’t match we were hoping for to finish today but we’ve learned a lot and most important we made some steps with the bike to improve it. In the end I had to use the soft front tyre to do my lap time but this option didn’t work so well at this track. At least we know some areas where we need to improve for tomorrow. We also endured some strange issues with the throttle coming more from engine side so from tomorrow on we will use a different engine from which we know already that it works really well. Not just due to that fact we’re pretty sure that we can make a step with which we’ll come closer to the front.”
