John happy with ‘positive’ opening day at Mugello
After heavy rain Thursday afternoon till Friday morning, the Italian round began with a wet session this morning but the weather remained stable for the remaining day so the track dried out completely for FP2 this afternoon.
Peugeot Motocycles SAXOPRINT’s Scotsman John McPhee delivered a solid opening day in the Tuscany region of Italy, posting the 21st fastest lap time in the combined practice times.
The ambitious and talented rider was able to took benefit from his ride both in the wet and in dry conditions in order to found out the path to follow for the remaining weekend.
The smaller cylinder class action to continue with Saturday morning’s FP3. The starting grid for Sunday’s Moto3™ Gran Premio d’Italia at the magnificent Mugello Circuit is to decide at lunch time.
#17 John McPHEE (FP1: P23 – 2´12.501 (13/14) / FP2: P21 – 2´00.260 (13/15)):
“Honestly speaking it was a pretty positive day overall. The first session was a bit strange due to the wet conditions but things went quite nice for me because it was more clearly to see the problems we had so we were able to identify the problems. We managed to work on things for free practice two and in doing so, step by step we made improvements to the bike. In the end it looks like we know a clear direction to go. Finally, we ended up with 1.7 seconds off the pace but the lap times again are very close and I’m pretty sure that with a good lap tomorrow we can be closer to the front again.”
