Positive first day at the Sachsenring for John

 In News

Weather conditions were mixed due to some periodically drizzling rains throughout the day but the Moto3 class was happy to run their first practice sessions at the tight and twisty Sachsenring circuit in fully dry conditions on Friday.

Despite the weather both riders in Peugeot Motocycles SAXOPRINT, John McPhee and teammate Alexis Masbou concluded the opening day with a big smile in their face due to strong positions in the combined practice times.

Whilst Scottish rider John McPhee had his first experience with the developed gearbox already last month in Barcelona during the first roll-out of this upgrade, it was the very first time for Alexis Masbou to use the new gearbox, which Mahindra has delivered for this race and the future.

With the knowledge coming from McPhee and his crew chief Mark Keen that the upgrade to the team’s Peugeot Moto3 machine will work well, Frenchman Masbou and his crew were also testing and trying different solutions for the rear on his bike whereas McPhee’s agenda prescribed just to make as many laps as possible to fully understand the update.

McPhee and Masbou wrapped up day one in P14 and P15 respectively after working very focussed on their tasks on Friday in Germany. It was the best ever team result in dry conditions after free practice sessions for the still young French-German based Moto3 project so far. Peugeot Motocycles SAXOPRINT is now looking forward to give something to cheer all team sponsors and fans at their home round.

The smaller cylinder class action is set to continue Saturday morning with the final free practice session. The starting grid for Sunday’s Moto3™ Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland will decided at lunch time with the all-important qualifying practice.

#17 John McPHEE (FP1: P10 – 1´29.173 (19/19) / FP2: P13 – 1´28.601 (9/18)):
“Overall it was a very positive day one here at the Sachsenring. From the very first moment this morning I felt really confident with the bike and I also had a good feeling. We didn’t make so many changes for the second session this afternoon but just to make more laps and try to safe some tyres. The tyre combination during FP2 wasn’t as good but now we have some more tyres to use for tomorrow. I think if we’re capable of continue in this way we can look forward to good weekend. In respect to the new gearbox I had the same sensations like during our test in Barcelona. Everything is working perfect.”
