Difficult qualifying for John makes for tough Austrian GP ahead
Once again, weather conditions improved significantly for day two of practice, including the all-important qualifying session which decide the starting grid in Moto3 category. Both sessions today, first FP3 in the morning and later the timed session took place under bright skies and much increased temperatures.
John McPhee was visibly disappointed about his practice sessions so far at the Austrian Grand Prix, being not able to qualify better than for 29th spot on the grid. The 22-year-old struggled to get familiarized to the quite awesome 4.3 kilometres’ circuit.
The first Moto3 race after the summer break, which marks at the same time the opener for the second part of the 2016 campaign, is set to get underway on Sunday 11:00 am in front of a completely sold-out Red Bull Ring with 100.000 (!) fans on the grandstands.
#17 John McPHEE, Grid position 29th – 1´37.874 (12/18):
“A difficult day overall. Obviously I’m not happy with my starting position but tomorrow is the race and we will continue to work hard to try and find a better feeling and make it easier to set more decent lap times. At the moment I feel that I’m riding at the limit but we’re still too far from the front. Beyond that I didn’t find a fast wheel during qualifying to take benefit learning the line. Anyway, I hope we can have success tomorrow.”
