John McPhee has made a solid start to the Malaysian GP at Sepang International Circuit, taking 11th overall after combined timesheets were decided by FP1 and the rain came down in the afternoon.

The Brit’s fastest lap in the morning was a 2:14.236, just on the the cusp of the top ten. In FP2 in the wet, the Scot moved up the timesheets to go seventh – just a tenth and a half off the top five in a tight fight near the top. John suffered a crash at the end of the session, but with no consequences.

Off to a good start, John will be looking to keep it rolling in qualifying on Saturday, with the session beginning at 12:35 local time (GMT +8).

John McPhee, P11:
“Today was a fairly strong couple of practices. My tyre management was good in FP1 and I was able to do the whole session on the same tyres and I did my quickest time at the end. In the rain we had some more room for improvement but still managed to finish up in P7. Overall I’m reasonably happy and looking forward to tomorrow.”
