John concludes three day Jerez test, ready to head for Qatar
Three fruitful days of preseason testing concluded today for the Moto3 riders at the Jerez – Angel Nieto Circuit, where John McPhee and teammate Ayumu Sasaki have been able to spend valuable time refining the set-up of their machines and getting to understand the different tyre options they will have at their disposal during the season ahead.
John has had an intense three days of work, making gradual progress on the base set-up of his Honda. The PETRONAS Sprinta Racing rider leaves Jerez feeling satisfied with his race pace after completing 119 laps, the best being a 1’46.881 that came on Wednesday, leaving him 22nd overall. On Friday the Scotsman clocked a 1’47.166, 24th fastest on the day.
The PETRONAS Sprinta Racing team will now head to Qatar next week for the final test of preseason, set to take place from 1st-3rd March at the Losail International Circuit before the 2019 Moto3 World Championship kicks off at the same venue on 10th March.

“Today we went back to a normal testing programme. We wanted to try different things with the rear end of the bike so we played around with some other configurations, various shocks, basically a few different parts. I felt really good on the bike and at the end of the day we got pretty close to our base set-up. It was good to try different things but also to fix whatever didn’t work perfectly and improve it to have a good base. We are not up there with the quickest lap times, which is something to improve on, but my pace is fast and consistent so I am happy with that. I think we are going to Qatar with a good package.”
