John secures top ten grid position in Sachsenring qualifying

John McPhee had a strong day at the Sachsenring today. In the morning he worked on race pace in the practice sessions but was unable to match his team-mate on single-lap qualifying pace. Despite this, and having to progress through Q1, tenth on the grid still offers many opportunities for tomorrow’s race.

Tomorrow’s 27-lap Moto3 race at the German Grand Prix will get underway at 11am local time (5pm Malaysian time).

“To have to go through Q1 wasn’t part of the strategy, but we’ve concentrated on race pace a lot here which meant doing one fast lap was tricky. But to go from Q1 to Q2 and end up tenth is a good result, and I know I can fight. The difficult part of the weekend is out of the way because I know that we can be really strong in the race. I need to say congratulations as well to Ayumu on his maiden pole position.”
