A warmer but breezier MotorLand Aragón greeted PETRONAS Sprinta Racing’s Moto3 riders, as the Gran Premio de Teruel got underway today. John McPhee ended the first day of back-to-back GPs at the Spanish circuit tenth.

A steady start to FP1 saw John stay within the top-ten throughout the 40 minutes. Setting his fastest laps in the final minutes of the session, John’s fastest time of 1min 58.726secs placed him sixth. After sitting out the first 15 minutes of FP2, due to a penalty from the Aragon GP, McPhee finished the session sixth with a 1min 58.626secs time, which placed him 10th in the combined times.

Saturday action will start for the Moto3 riders at 10am local time with FP3, before qualifying gets underway at 1.15pm local time.

It’s been a productive day. We treated the sessions more like a test, than Free Practice, as with so many back-to-back races it’s important to continue making improvements. For the first time in a while we made quite a big step with the bike, in a completely different direction, and there were a number of positive things with this. We now need to take the information gathered and decide what we do for the rest of the weekend. Our main focus tomorrow will be getting into Q2, then in qualifying the settings from today should help us make the lap time a little more easily on our own and be better than last week. We know a slipstream here can help a lot in getting you on the front row, but we’ll try our best to do as many laps as possible alone tomorrow and see what happens.
