Tough qualifying sees John line up 11th on the Assen grid
The final Moto3 race before the summer break will see PETRONAS Sprinta Racing rider John McPhee start the DutchGP from 11th.
John timed his final run in FP3 to perfection, completing his final flying lap in 1min 42.226secs. This proved to be the fourth quickest lap in the session, placed him eighth overall and secured his place in Q2. The Scot got his first qualifying run off to a perfect start, briefly holding the top spot on the timing screens with a 1min 42.043secs lap. John was unable to improve upon this on his final run and ended Q2 11th, which will see him start from the fourth row of the grid tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s track action will begin with the Moto3 Warm Up session at 8.40am local time (2.40pm MYT), with their 22-lap race getting underway at 11am local time (5pm MYT).
It was a bit of a tough qualifying session today. I did a banker lap at the beginning, which was my fastest lap of the weekend, and then my final lap, which I had made another improvement on, was taken off me. I’m not sure why and we need to understand that, because I think we would have been four or five places higher. We have struggled a little with one-lap pace, but we can consistently string a good amount of laps together, which is good going into the race. If we can get a good start tomorrow I’m sure we’ll be there in the fight. Let’s see what happens.
