In Assen the weather often affects the race weekend and this year the tradition has been respected. In fact, the first day of practice was held with the track wet by violent rain showers, falling until a few minutes before the start of the morning session.

In free practice 1 John went very fast and managed to get the third fastest time. In Free Practice 2 temperatures dropped by a few degrees and on the ground were recorded 22oC, While in the air 20oC. It stopped raining long before the start of the session and this allowed the riders to get on track with much better conditions. John improved his time by about 2.5 seconds, setting a time of 1’50.386. With this performance he is eleventh in the combined standings.

“I enjoyed myself a lot today. It is the first time for me on the Husqvarna in the rain condition because in the past races when it has been raining was when I had my time off with my injury, so I was a little bit curious to see how I would be in the rain. Honestly, the feeling was really good from the beginning, we did not need to change too much. Lap by lap I came faster and more confident. We finished the FP1 in the top 3, while FP2 was more wet and we were P2 until the last 10 minutes. In the end the track came dry really fast and I had a lot more to offer but I exited the box a little bit too late so we were not able to be further up the timesheets at the end. Overall the feeling was good so this is the most important thing for free practice. We are excited for tomorrow in all conditions.”
